OR 10 & 11 Buildout

St. Joseph's Hospital South · Designer of record: Gresham Smith

Full buildout of two new operating rooms at St. Joseph's Hospital South, including sole-source nurse call/code system per Spec Section 27 52 23 (Rauland-Borg Responder V), full med gas rough-in and ASSE 6030 verification, ICRA Class IV containment throughout, and integration with the hospital's existing surgical services on adjacent operating floors.

The challenge

The OR floor at SJHS South stayed fully operational throughout construction. ICRA Class IV containment was set up the day after award and has stayed up since. Daily particle counts. Coordination with surgical services on what could happen each day, what couldn't, and what required after-hours work. Sole-source manufacturer scopes coordinated through their factory reps because nothing else was approved by the hospital's technology standards.

What it shows

Working in an active surgical floor without disrupting surgical services is the highest-stakes form of hospital construction. Doing it on schedule with a clean ICRA log is the proof.
